Tim van den Bergh
Justice Sector Advisor
To work towards justice is about making an effort to understand one another. However, with all our intricate relationships, customary differences and unique environments this becomes a challenging task. For that very reason, projects, programs and policy need to be people-centered. Because only then, are we acting in a way that is meaningful for all parties involved.
Tim is the Justice Sector Advisor at the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL). In this role, he works on Criminal Justice innovation, where he is responsible for research, project design and implementation on themes such as restorative justice, high volume crime and purposes of punishment. Tim joined HiiL because he saw it as an opportunity to influence social public policy from an evidence-based perspective, making sustainable Criminal Justice interventions the norm. Tim holds a MSc in Conflict Studies, a MA in North American Studies, and a Bachelor in Criminology from Loras College (Iowa).
Before his appointment at HiiL, Tim worked in the public diplomacy department of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl). During this time, he was involved in organizing numerous diplomatic missions for high-level political delegations. Additionally, Tim helped set up the International Business Academy, a public-private partnership platform offering training courses on international business topics.
Outside of work, Tim likes to cook, play football and make music. He also enjoys combining physical activity with nature when he goes for a run or rides his bicycle in the larger Nijmegen area.
