Ahmed Hamza Tijani
Senior Programme Manager KENU
I believe the world needs to address deep-rooted social and economic inequalities to ensure fair access to legal resources for everyone. People-centred justice can support local communities’ active participation in the justice process, leading to sustainable and culturally relevant solutions to their unique challenges.
Ahmed Hamza Tijani serves as Senior Programme Manager at HiiL, supporting programmes in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda. In this role, he ensures effective and efficient delivery of project outcomes, emphasising HiiL’s people-centred justice approach. His efforts draw on his motivation in addressing inequality and injustice, empowering local stakeholders, and protecting human rights.
Prior to joining HiiL, Hamza spent nearly 23 years with Oxfam International serving in various roles around the globe. This included Country Director for Oxfam in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria where he led the development and implementation of the organisation’s country strategies. He also led the design of Oxfam’s first engagement strategy for ECOWAS.
Hamza received his degree in Law and Sociology from the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He also received his Master’s degree in Democracy, Governance, and Law from University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and a Master’s in Leading Innovation and Change from York St. John University, United Kingdom.
Hamza writes about organisational change and philanthropy and trains African NGO leaders on executive leadership and transition. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis which provides him the space to reconnect with his social group weekly.
