Justice Needs in Burkina Faso
The Ministry of Justice of Burkina Faso has displayed a commitment to being more responsive to the justice needs of its citizens and to recognising traditional and customary practices as proper sources of justice. Survey data collected in HiiL’s 2024 Justice Needs & Satisfaction (eJNS) study shows a real demand to make these promises a reality.
HiiL, in close collaboration and with the validation of the Ministry of Justice, launched an eJNS survey in 2024. This study collected the experiences of over 3600 Burkinabè from 12 regions of the country and it follows two independent JNS surveys conducted in 2022, one focused on the general population and the other on internally displaced people and host communities.
The eJNS data seeks to aid the Ministry of Justice and other Burkinabè institutions to become more aware of the justice needs of Burkinabè. We also aim to inform important policy decisions on justice matters and to target specific urgent problems that can benefit from innovative solutions found through Justice Innovation Labs (JILs).
HiiL is committed to strengthening people-centred justice in Burkina Faso.
