Justice and the Rule of Law Global Forum: Fostering Inclusive and Sustainable Development

To advance the goal for collective action to strengthen global justice systems, the World Bank Group hosted the “Justice and the Rule of Law Global Forum: Fostering Inclusive and Sustainable Development” on June 25-26, 2024, in Washington, D.C. This event gathered over 200 participants, including government and judicial officials, WBG leaders, international and civil society organisations, private sector representatives, and academics, to promote dialogue and collaboration on the role of justice in development.

HiiL took part in the Forum, participating in a plenary and hosting a World Cafe side event.

  • Shoko Noda, UN Assistant Secretary General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Crisis Bureau
  • Shannon Green, Assistant to the Administrator, Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance Bureau, USAID
  • Jan Beagle, Director-General, IDLO
  • Sam Muller, CEO, HiiL
  • Moderator: Arturo Herrera, Governance Global Director, World Bank Group

World Cafe #12: Making People-Centered Justice a Reality

Seventy percent of individuals facing justice issues lack resolution, leaving conflicts in critical areas like family, employment, and land to fester. In this side event, we proposed combining institutional scalability with the effectiveness of grassroots initiatives to enhance justice delivery, using data-driven, evidence-based practices. The goal is to provide access to justice for 60 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and beyond by 2030, leveraging both formal and informal justice stakeholders to drive change. Our CEO Sam Muller led the session.
